Recently voted Small Hotel of the Year by the London magazine Tatler, there is nowhere to stay in the city quite like Casa No. 7 Hotel. A host of details give away a certain nostalgia for the Noel Coward era; scrambled eggs (in olive oil) at breakfast, a white-jacket butler who whisks your suitcase up to your room, and an elegant drawing room where you will be served a glass of chilled fino (dry sherry) before you head out for dinner. And it will be the very best of finos because Gonzalo, whose family own the González-Byass bodegas, knows more than a thing or tow about sherry! Comfort and elegance are the keynotes of the bedrooms he created at Casa No. 7 Hotel. Carefully chosen fabrics, rugs, antique dressers, old prints and oils, family photographs and books give them both a homely and elegant feel. Marble floors, double sinks and air-conditioning would delight the most exacting of hotel inspectors. It all feels like a privileged world-within-a-world, an inner sanctum safe from the heat and the rumble of the Andalusian capital. With luck you may meet Gonzalo and share conversation about changing times in the sherry trade. Like that man Jeeves, he and his hotel are inimitable.

To see and do: the Cathedral and the Giralda, the Jewish Quarter, the Plaza de España and the Maria Luisa Park.
