Escape to Seville
I was fortunate enough to have as my host at the Stunning Casa No. 7 hotel a son of the González-Gordon family (of Gonzales Byass fame) who educated me about the different types of sherry. Casa No. 7 Hotel, Calle Virgenes 7, Seville 4100. Tel: 0034954 221581
Where do I find it?
In the Santa Cruz district, a few minutes walk from the city cathedral. The hotel is a renovated 1847 Spanish townhouse with the living rooms arranged around a central courtyard.
Top notch. The owner is a member of the Gonzalez-Gordon sherry family. Gonzalo del Rio y Gonzalez-Gordon to give him his full name, is a delightful host who happily entertains the guests as if they were visitors to his own home. The décor has been described as Hispanic, Colfax and the drawing room is very much that of an English country house. The bedrooms are decorated in a similar style.
Breakfast only, but gorgeous and served on a silver platter. Scrambled eggs with bacon and Spanish croissants and toast served with Seville marmalade.
Who goes there?
English people. Señor Gonzalez loves the British and advertises his hotel only in the UK.
How much does it cost?
A night's bed and breakfast is around £100
